5.40pm: Booted outSecurity guards are starting to round people up and it's time to leave (we're an hour ahead of the UK, don't forget). Looks like I'll have to round up the last few stands I missed today on the second media day on Friday.
Many car enthusiasts would easily agree to a drive across the country. We're not sure whether Edgar "Ned" Wilcox was an enthusiast, but he did the trip--from Traverse City, Mich., to Tacoma, Wash., in 1923, driving a Case Six. The trip took Wilcox and his passengers 18 days, including delays for weather and mechanical issues.
The super frugal – and super slippery – VW XL1 (pictured) will take on the Goodwood hillclimb
Visitors to the Goodwood Festival of Speed can spend endless hours watching a seemingly endless precession of supercars take on the hillclimb. But one supercar this year will be a bit different. Volkswagen are taking their super slippery, super frugal supercar – the VW XL1 SEV – to Goodwood next month and are planning on taking it up the hillclimb in the capable hands of former F1 champion Jacky Ickx.
